A nine-year-old boy in school uniform was stopped by police in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital while driving to school with his father in the front seat.
After police gave chase after the boy accelerated after being flagged down, the saloon car was stopped before it entered a private school in Athi River, on the outskirts of the city.
His younger sister was discovered in the back, also dressed in a school uniform. Kenyan law prohibits minors under the age of 18 from driving.
According to reports, the boy was speeding on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, one of the busiest in the country.
The father was arrested after the incident on Wednesday, but the two children were later driven to school in a police vehicle, according to the Daily Nation newspaper.
A tweet by the police reads;
“This action, which is not only irresponsible but also contravenes traffic laws, exposed the minor and other road users to grave danger.
The suspect further acted against the Children Act that vests statutory parental responsibility on the protection of children from harm and danger.”
