Tech magnate Elon Musk has officially acquired Twitter Inc. in what multiple journals reports is an approx $44 billion sale.
Musk, the founder & CEO of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla—who is also a perennial tweeter in his personal life—had been expressing interest in buying the social media platform for weeks.
According to Bloomberg, this deal ranks ‘as one of the biggest-ever leveraged buyouts of a listed company’ and was announced before the time of market closure on Monday.
Musk himself tweeted minutes before news emerged that the deal was being finalized. ‘I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means,’ he wrote.
